Who will provide the financial services to me?

Money Morning Investment Research acts on its own behalf. Money Morning Investment Research is responsible for the financial services provided to you.

Financial Service Providers Register Number: FSP 615 149

What kind of financial services can MMIR provide and what kind of products do these services relate to?

Money Morning Investment Research is registered on the New Zealand Financial Service Providers (FSP) Register as a provider of wholesale and/or generic financial adviser services. There are three categories of ‘financial adviser services’, including ‘giving financial advice’ (which is the category we undertake).

This registration permits us to provide a ‘class service’ (i.e. class financial advice) to both wholesale and retail clients in New Zealand.[1] ‘Class’ financial advice is ‘financial advice’ that does not take into account, or would not reasonably be expected to take into account, a particular client’s financial situation or goals. For example, publishing a newsletter or report that contained financial advice would be giving class financial advice to the subscribers of that newsletter or report.

We can provide this class financial advice in respect of all types of financial products, including:

  • Equity securities (e.g. shares)
  • Debt securities (e.g. bonds)
  • Managed investment products (e.g. interests in funds, such as KiwiSaver schemes)
  • Derivatives
  • Insurance products.

We advise on financial products and other investments through our newsletters, e-letters, websites and reports.

We do not offer any services for you to buy or sell the financial products we recommend. A list of stockbrokers who are licensed to deal in listed financial products is available from New Zealand’s Exchange (www.nzx.com).

IMPORTANT: We provide class financial advice only. The advice published by Money Morning Investment Research has been prepared without taking into account your particular financial situation or goals. Before acting on our recommendations, you should consider their appropriateness to your particular financial situation or goals. If you are uncertain as to what your financial situation or goals are, you should contact a financial adviser or stockbroker who is licensed to provide you with personalised financial advice.

How does MMIR get paid?

Money Morning Investment Research is a subscription-based service. A subscription fee is payable when you subscribe to one of our newsletters. Some of our e-letter services are free. Publisher’s prices at the time of preparation of this FSG are:

  • Money Morning New Zealand– Free email service
  • Small-Cap Speculator– $99 annually
  • Alpha Wave Trader– $2,999 annually

Note: Prices are subject to change. Money Morning Investment Research does not receive any other fees, commissions or benefits for the services it provides. All employees and directors of Money Morning Investment Research receive a salary. They may also receive performance-based bonuses. No employee is entitled to any other fees, commissions or benefits from Money Morning Investment Research or any other person in relation to the financial services provided.

How does MMIR manage potential conflicts of interest?

Money Morning Investment Research does not have any relationships or associations with any financial product providers that influence, or could reasonably be expected to influence us, in the provision of financial services that we provide.

Employees are prohibited from disclosing to third parties the substance of recommendations before they are published, and are not allowed to instruct others to act on recommendations before they are published or during the blackout period and should refer to Money Morning Investment Research Staff Trading Policy before making such recommendations. Any breach pertaining to the Staff Trading Policy will result to disciplinary action.

What should I know about the risks of the financial product advice MMIR provides?

There are risks with all financial products. Their prices may fall as well as rise, and there is a chance you could lose your entire investment.

We assign risk ratings to the financial products we recommend in some of our newsletters. Note that these risk ratings are general in nature. We do not guarantee the performance of any financial products we recommend.

As indicated above, we provide class financial advice only. We do not provide personalised financial product advice. You should consult a financial advisor or stockbroker who is licensed to provide you with personal financial product advice if you require any advice on securities, derivatives, managed investment schemes, or if you require assistance in determining your particular risk profile.

Compensation Arrangements and Professional Indemnity Insurance:

Money Morning Investment Research maintains adequate Professional Indemnity Insurance which covers our rights and responsibilities for liability for assessments from the authorised financial services products. This insurance cover extends to claims in relation to our conduct as a New Zealand Financial Services Provider and our employees and representatives past and present, to compensate clients for loss or damage suffered if we provide negligent advice.

What information does MMIR maintain in my file?

We keep your name and address details in our database for the purpose of providing the services you request. We may also keep your telephone and email details if you provide them to us, as well as a record of correspondence between you and us, including emails, telephone conversations and letters as only authorised employees have access to such confidential customer information. Please refer to our Privacy Policy for further information. At any time, you may change or remove your details by contacting us.

Calculating Your Future Returns: The value of any investment and the income derived from it can go down as well as up. Never invest more than you can afford to lose and keep in mind the ultimate risk is that you can lose whatever you’ve invested. While useful for detecting patterns, the past is not a guide to future performance. Some figures contained in our reports, newsletters and other publications are forecasts and may not be a reliable indicator of future results. Any potential gains in any of our publications do not include taxes, brokerage commissions, or associated fees. Please seek independent financial advice regarding your particular financial situation or goals. Investments in foreign companies involve risk and may not be suitable for all investors. Specifically, changes in the rates of exchange between currencies may cause a divergence between your nominal gain and your currency converted gain, making it possible to lose money once your total return is adjusted for currency.
